Bagi anda pengguna sistem operasi linux, disini saya memberikan daftar beberapa alternatif aplikasi yang biasa digunakan dalam sistem operasi linux.
Aplikasi-aplikasi dibawah ini kebanyakan merupakan aplikasi yang Open Source dan bisa anda download secara gratis.

1. OpenOffice
OpenOffice adalah produk multi-platform untuk perkantoran.
Didalamnya terdapat aplikasi desktop seperti pengolah kata, spreadsheet, presentasi manajer, dan program gambar dengan antarmuka pengguna dan fitur lainnya yang mirip dengan program perkantoran yang lain.

2. Calm Antivirus
Clam AntiVirus adalah aplikasi open source (GPL) anti-virus toolkit untuk UNIX yang dirancang untuk e-mail pada pemindaian mail gateways.
Clam AntiVirus memberikan sejumlah utilitas termasuk yang fleksibel, scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner dan dapat melakukan update database secara otomatis.

Filezilla merupakan solusi aplikasi gratis untuk FTP.

Macintosh atau Mac adalah salah satu jenis komputer personal berbasis PowerPC yang diproduksi oleh Apple. Macintosh adalah komputer pertama yang memperkenalkan sistem antarmuka grafis (GUI).
Berikut kumpulan shortcuts keyboard untuk macintosh yang mungkin bisa berguna bagi anda pengguna macintosh :

Startup
Press X during startup -> Force Mac OS X startup
Press Option-Command-Shift-Delete during startup -> Bypass primary startup volume and seek a different startup volume (such as a CD or external disk)
Press C during startup -> Start up from a CD that has a system folder
Press N during startup -> Attempt to start up from a compatible network server (NetBoot)
Press T during startup -> Start up in FireWire Target Disk mode
Press Shift during startup -> start up in Safe Boot mode and temporarily disable login items and non-essential kernel extension files (Mac OS X 10.2 and later)
Press Command-V during startup -> Start up in Verbose mode.
Press Command-S during startup -> Start up in Single-User mode

Finder window
Command-W -> Close Window
Option-Command-W -> Close all Windows
Command-Right Arrow -> Expand folder (list view)
Option-Command-Right Arrow -> Expand folder and nested subfolders (list view)
Command-Left Arrow -> Collapse Folder (list view)
Option-Command-Up Arrow -> Open parent folder and close current window

MikroTikls [dengan trade name MikroTik®] didirikan tahun 1995 bertujuan mengembangkan sistem ISP dengan wireless.
MikroTikls saat ini telah mendukung sistem ISP dengan wireless untuk jalur data internet di banyak negara.
MikroTik berlokasi di Riga, ibukota Latvia, dengan 50 orang karyawan.
Mikrotik juga menjalankan sebuah ISP kecil, sebagai media percobaan untuk pengembangan Mikrotik RouterOS software.

Mikrotik RouterOS merupakan system operasi Linux base yang diperuntukkan sebagai network router.
Didesain untuk memberikan kemudahan bagi penggunanya.
Administrasinya bisa dilakukan melalui Windows application (WinBox).
Selain itu instalasi dapat dilakukan pada Standard computer PC.
PC yang akan dijadikan router mikrotikpun tidak memerlukan resource yang cukup besar untuk penggunaan standard, misalnya hanya sebagai gateway. Untuk keperluan beban yang besar ( network yang kompleks, routing yang rumit dll) disarankan untuk mempertimbangkan pemilihan resource PC yang memadai.
Fasilitas pada mikrotik antara lain sebagai berikut :
- Protokoll routing RIP, OSPF, BGP.
- Statefull firewall
- Hotspot for Plug-and-Play access
- remote winbox GUI admin

Mengurangi Beban Kinerja Komputer Anda

Komputer yang kita gunakan lama kelamaan akan terasa makin lambat dan ‘berat’, ini dikarenakan beban kinerja komputer kita makin berat.
Berikut saya sedikit memberikan beberapa tips untuk mengurangi beban kinerja komputer anda.

- Langkah 1
Langkah pertama mempercepat boot via BIOS.

- Langkah 2
Untuk Windows XP, mulai dengan membuka System Configuration Utility.(Start–>Run–>ketik “msconfig”).
Pada tab BOOT.INI, beri tanda centang pada “/NOGUIBOOT”, ini akan mempersingkat waktu boot dengan menghilangkan Windows startup screen.
Pada tab Startup, hilangkan centang service-service yang benar-benar sangat tidak dibutuhkan.
Pada tab service lakukan hal yang sama seperti pada tab Startup.

- Langkah 3
Setting ini dapat anda lakukan jika anda mementingkan kecepatan Windows XP dari pada grafis atau tampilan Windows XP.
Setting ulang interface ini dapat menambah kecepatan.
Masuk ke Control Panel dan klik System, lalu pilih tab Advanced.
Pada pilihan Performance klik Settings, kemudian pada tab Visual Effects pilih “Adjust for Best Performance”.

- Langkah 4
Tidak menggunakan wallpaper dan minimalisasi jumlah desktop icon juga dapat mempercepat PC Anda.

- Langkah 5
Tidak menggunakan suara pada event Start Windows juga dapat mempercepat proses boot.
Masuk ke Control Panel dan klik “Sounds and Audio Devices” lalu pilih tab Sounds.
Pada Sound scheme pilih No Sounds.

- Langkah 6
Kurangi jumlah font yang tidak begitu penting pada Windows Anda.
karena makin banyak jumlah font yang terinstal akan menambah berat beban kerja PC Anda.
Windows secara default menyertakan sejumlah kurang dari 100 font.
Usahakan jumlah font yang terinstal tidak lebih 150 font.

- Langkah 7
Anda harus rajin meng-update driver, karena file-file yang masih menggunakan driver lama dapat memperlambat PC Anda.
